Big Cypress
Location: West Of Naples off US 41 (The Tamiami Trail)
Description: Big Cypress has a mixture of pines, hardwoods, prairies, mangrove forests, cypress strands and a whole lot of swamp. White-tailed deer, bear and Florida panther are among the many animals found here. Big Cypress National Preserve is the first National Preserve in the National Park System. Drive Turner River Road north and keep your eyes out along the far side of the river. You will see more gators than you can count. Loop road is a 26 mile long bumpy drive that is one of the easiest ways to see wildlife. Be careful as there are frequently gators in the road. Kirby Storer has a short boardwalk that runs through a nice cypress swamp to a small pond and is a good birdwatching location.
Personal Notes: One of my favorite and most frequently visited parks. Loop road is one of my favorite places to be early in the morning and is very quiet and peaceful at this time. Along loop road is one of my favorite spots in any park and that is Sweetwater Strand. This is a beautiful cypress swamp area that almost always has something going on.
