| Location: On Janes Memorial Scenic Drive, just west of Copeland, FL on S.R. 29 |
| Description: Winding through the Florida Everglades is a narrow thread of forested swamp called the Fakahatchee Strand. This vast wilderness is a mosaic of royal palm stands, cypress domes, and grassy prairies dotted with wild bromeliads, native ferns, and orchids. The park´s wildlife includes a number of threatened and endangered species. The Florida panther, wood stork, Florida black bear, mangrove fox squirrel, and Everglades mink have all been seen within the preserve. |
| Personal Notes: Fakahatchee Strand is one of those places you can go and feel like you are the only person for a 100 miles. There are miles and miles of uncrowded trails. The big bend boardwalk off of US 41 is very active in terms of both wildlife and visitors. |
