| Description: Two thousand acres of wetlands are protected in Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve. The slough performs an ecologically valuable service; as rainwater accumulates from run-off during heavy storms, the plants in the slough that remove sediments and pollution filter it. The water then makes its way to the Estero Bay, an environmentally sensitive area. During the wet season from June to October, water up to three feet in depth flows through the slough. |
